BaselWorld 2016 Wrap-up

BaselWorld is the largest watch and jewelry show in the world, taking place annually in Basel, Switzerland. I was lucky enough to attend the industry-leading event, where hundreds of the hottest brands premiered their newest watches.
It was a fantastic opportunity to source the biggest trends for our showroom at Darakjian Jewelers in Birmingham, Michigan, and I'm excited to share my top 5 watches from this year's event with you.
Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon

It's pieces like this that get watch aficionados excited. Inspired by the world of boating, this watch features a wood marquetry dial and a boom-style retrograde minute hand powered by sailing-boat-style pulleys. Ulysse Nardin will only be producing 18 of the Grand Deck Marine Tourbillon, retailing at $280K.

Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Skeleton Chronograph
Maurice Lacroix is no stranger to skeleton style watches, where nearly every mesmerizing movement is visible. What makes the Masterpiece Skeleton Chronograph special is that it's Maurice Lacroix's first automatic skeleton chronograph watch—a timepiece that eloquently combines the technical demands of an open-worked movement with a highly useful complication, the chronograph. This piece will be arriving in store by late summer with three color choices: steel, black PVD and two-toned. Prices range from $7,500 to $8,500. Frederique Constant Perpetual Calendar
A perpetual calendar watch is a highly sought after complication as it correctly displays the time, day of the week, day, month and moonphase. In fact, it even accounts for leap days. A finely engineered complication such as this typically comes with a five or six figured price tag, but the Frederique Constant Perpetual Calendar watch is well under $10K at $8,795, making this unique piece attainable for most watch collectors.

Bremont Boeing 100
Brown was the new black at this year's BaselWorld 2016 as demonstrated by the cockpit inspired dial color for Bremont 's Boeing 100. In addition to the Boeing Brown hue, this 100 ^th anniversary celebration timepiece takes many design cues from the world of flight. Not only is it manufactured from Boeing aviation-grade Ti 6-4 titanium, this piece features Boeing's original totem pole logo. However, the most surprising and exciting feature about this watch is that the crown contains a piece of carbon fiber from the 1 ^st Dreamliner ever made. Bremont will be producing only 300 of their aviation dedicated Boeing 100, which will be hitting the market this summer at $7,595. Limited pre-orders available.
